Knowing ‘WHY’ makes things more engaging and people more efficient. It motivates. Learn and accept the reason behind performing a specific task, and you know how to approach it, solve problems and adapt along the way towards the goal. You’ll dare take your own initiatives and be agile. Your engagment increases because you understand, and thus your motivation.
At the same time it’s important to communicate ‘HOW‘ you and your team members plan to go forward. The grand plan has to be transparent, otherwise it will be tricky. As a project manager, you’re of course often responsible for setting the operational goals of your project. Timelines, for instance in Gantt charts, are often used both to formulate actionable goal-driven planning and at the same time communicate the big picture towards team members and stakeholders.
In the new software tool that we are developing, we’re focused on making ‘WHY’ and ‘HOW’ prominent and easily approachable pillars for all users. Managers and team members alike. How would you like to structure and create engagement for your everyday work? We would very much like to get your feedback on this topic, so feel free to comment.
