The western countries have lately experienced a tougher economic climate where we’ve among other things seen increasing differences in wages. You can find high paid jobs which require a lot of qualifications and experience and very low paid jobs that people in the west are not interested in!? There are less and less jobs in the middle. Another interesting trend is that we haven’t seen any creation of new jobs even after economical crisis. According to economical theories the increase and recovery of GNP will also lead to new jobs. This has not been the case in the west. These two factors have lead to an intense debate in the Anglo-Saxon countries where the question up for debate is if we in the west will see the same development for our service jobs as we have seen for our industry jobs. Our industry jobs have moved to other parts of...
At Projectplace, we have always regarded projects to be social networks and our software-as-a-service software tools for project management have been designed based on that insight. While most other suppliers of software tools for project management insist on on providing detailed work planning and control mechanisms, we focus our attention on supporting communication within the project, and with project stakeholders. We believe, indeed we insist, that the key to project success is to help people share information and manage their commitments.
During the past year we have been hard at work modernising the web-client architecture in the system to enable development of a delightful look-and-feel and new advanced usage models for rapid navigation and easy interaction. But the most significant change of the Projectplace system are the ways in which we support project management. We are designing a new kind of social tools to help the project manager engage project stakeholders...
The future is Social. This is my third and for now last blog article about Social Business. We will have a closer look at the challenges business have to consider when becoming a more social organisation. The challenges you will meet are different from different organisations. Which one will you face? At the end I will also give you a get started checklist.
Which are the challenges to become more social?
Employees need to learn how to behave or navigate within a social organisation. Especially older workers might find it difficult learning new behavior, learn how to work socially, than younger who are brought up with it. In a social world, the socially oriented worker gets ahead which is a challenge for the organisation to deal with. Those who are used to social tools will stand out even more than workers who are more skilled. It could be compared with “raising hands”...
Projectplace started in 1998 which makes us one of the first Softwares as a Service. In the late 90's, when dial-up was still the prevailing method of connecting to the Internet, it was a cutting edge feature to be able to access your project from any computer (with an Internet connection). More than a decade later, that is no longer the case.
Wifi, 3g, 4g, laptops, and above all smartphones mean that these days we are connected to the Internet practically all the time and the way we work has changed with it. We expect to be able to answer our email and keep up to date whether we are at home, in the office or on the move. This means that it did not come as a complete surprise to us that one of the most requested developments on Projectplace Ideas - our forum for customer feedback - is to...
-This is the first part of a blog series about the background to the new collaborative planning tools that we will be rolling out over the next year. I hope to keep you continuously informed about what's going on in the project
For a long time we have felt, believed and preached that communication, collaboration and a shared view of where we are heading are key factors in project success. So how do we best support your need to communicate what the overall goal of your project is is and what you need to do to achieve it? You can call it a roadmap, a timeline, a master plan, or just the way forward. For simplicity I'm going to call it the master plan because this is the term we use for this particular concept.
We believe that one aspect of planning in the real world is that we will always need...
