Projectplace – The Next Generation

At Projectplace, we have always regarded projects to be social networks and our software-as-a-service software tools for project management have been designed based on that insight. While most other suppliers of software tools for project management insist on on providing detailed work planning and control mechanisms, we focus our attention on supporting communication within the project, and with project stakeholders. We believe, indeed we insist, that the key to project success is to help people share information and manage their commitments. During the past year we have been hard at work modernising the web-client architecture in the system to enable development of a delightful look-and-feel and new advanced usage models for rapid navigation and easy interaction. But the most significant change of the Projectplace system are the ways in which we support project management.  We are designing a new kind of social tools to help the project manager engage project stakeholders...

The future of project management

I sometimes get questions about the future of project management. How will theory, processes and principles develop during this decade? It is of course impossible to predict the future, but I have a strong feeling that I actually know where things are heading. In my opinion there are two megatrends, reaching their peak during this decade that will have very important implications on the subject. The first megatrend started some years after WW II:  Rapid knowledge development of us as humans. The development of new knowledge within areas like social anthropology, behavior science and the human brain has increased exponentially, and is continuing to do so. In the past 30 years we have learnt more about the human brain and human behavior than in the previous 3000 years. A scientific revolution within management theory has occurred. We know how people learn. How people are motivated. How to shape efficient behavior in high-performance teams....

How is Social Project Management different from Agile?

Social Project Management is our view on what is really important for a project to succeed. It’s based on modern social science and new social media inspired collaborative technology. There’s no major difference in values and principles between Agile Software Development and Social Project Management. In fact we share the same origin: Kaizen and Lean Production. Kaizen is a set of values and principles that reflects an intuitive understanding how human beings organize effectively. The same principles have been around for thousands of years. Lean is a production philosophy centered on preserving value with less work – in my opinion the only meaningful definition of efficiency. However, in the past 30 years we have learnt more about the human brain and the human species than in the previous 3000 years. A scientific revolution has occurred. We know how people learn. How people are motivated. How to shape efficient behavior in high-performance teams. And...
